Part of Central Maui which is a location made up of mostly single family homes which houses the majority of Maui's workforce.  With access to movie theatres, Walwart, Target, Costco, Kmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Office Max, and numerous stores/amenities.  Maui's largest shopping center is located at Queen Kaahumau Shopping center in the heart of Kahului.  This area has a few beaches such as Kanaha (Nasca) beach park which many kite surfers tend to congregate to.  Many cruise ships will make their stops in Kahului Harbor, and you can hear them coming/leaving port quite often.  

Kahului is within 2 miles of Maui Memorial Hospital, University of Hawaii Maui Campus (UH Maui formerly Maui Community College).  Due to population density, Kahului is the only area that USDA 100% loan financing is not available in for Maui County.  

Single Family homes for sale in Kahului typcially have between 5000 -10,000 sqft of land, many properties over 7,500 sqft will have a separate attached or detached cottage (ohana) for extended families or rental income.  Kahului borders the neighboring town of Wailuku, which when combined, is considered Central Maui.

Kahului's newest area of development is currently the Master Planned Community of Maui Lani.
